What Is Timebanking?
Timebanking is a community-based system where people exchange services based on time, not money. One hour of your time = one hour of someone else’s. So whether you’re walking a dog, tutoring math, designing a flyer, fixing a bike, or helping someone move—you’re earning “Time Credits” that you can use to receive help in return.
“So… like a bartering system?”Sort of—but better. Traditional bartering is a direct trade (you cut my hair, I fix your bike). With Timebanking, it's more flexible. You might help someone paint their porch and later use that time credit to get help with your resume or get a ride to the store. It's all tracked through the Timebank, so you can give to one person and receive from another—making it more community-wide, circular, and fair.
Why You Should Get Involved
1. You Already Have What It Takes
Timebanking values your time, not your degree or job title. That means your skills—whatever they are—matter. Maybe you can edit videos, babysit, help someone with Spanish homework, cook a meal, or even just lend a ride. That’s enough to start.
✨ No fancy resume required—just a good heart and a little time.
2. It Makes Real-Life Networking Easy
We all hear how important it is to “build your network,” but it can feel awkward or transactional. Timebanking is the opposite. You’re helping people in your community and building genuine relationships—people who might one day connect you to a job, help with a project, or become lifelong friends.
🤝 It’s the original LinkedIn—but with way better vibes.
3. It Feels Good AND Does Good
Let’s be honest: giving and receiving support feels better than doomscrolling. Timebanking helps you feel useful, supported, and seen. It’s also a way to support mutual aid in your own backyard—without needing a lot of cash.
💚 This is community care in action.
4. It’s Budget-Friendly and Anti-Capitalist (In the Best Way)
With prices going up and wages not keeping up, Timebanking helps you save money while still getting your needs met. It challenges the idea that money should gatekeep access to care, creativity, or services.
💸 You don’t need a big wallet to build a big life.
5. You Can Build a More Sustainable Life
Timebanking reduces waste, promotes local living, and strengthens real human connection. Instead of outsourcing everything to giant corporations, you’re turning to your neighbors—and often using what’s already available.
🌱 It’s better for you and for the planet.
